The french expression «cousu de fil blanc» (literally translated as sewed with white thread) means, rude, perceptible, predictable, visible, not sophisticated. Its origin came from the fact that in fashion design a cloth needs to be resewed with a color close to the fabric. If the material is dark and the thread white, the seam which should be discreet will be visible.
